Description

A cozy Greek comfort dish featuring fork-tender beef nestled in saucy, herb-kissed orzo.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs Beef chuck, large cubes
  • 1 cup Orzo pasta
  • 1 can (28 oz) Crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cups Beef stock
  • 1 Onion, finely chopped
  • 4 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 1 Cinnamon stick (or pinch ground)
  • 1 Bay leaf
  • 1 tsp Dried oregano
  • Salt & black pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. Season beef generously; brown in olive oil until deeply caramelized. Remove.
  2. Sauté onion until soft; add garlic and tomato paste, cooking until fragrant.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, stock, cinnamon, bay, oregano; return beef.
  4. Cover and simmer gently until beef is very tender, about 90 minutes.
  5. Stir in orzo; transfer to a baking dish and cover.
  6. Bake until orzo is al dente and saucy, 25–30 minutes; rest 5 minutes.
  7. Finish with parsley and adjust seasoning before serving.

Notes

  • For a deeper flavor, marinate the beef overnight.
  • Adjust the amount of cinnamon to taste.
  • Serve with a side of crusty bread for a complete meal.
