Ingredients

  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, then mix in egg, vanilla, vinegar, food coloring, and buttermilk.
  2. Whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt; gradually mix into wet ingredients to form a soft dough.
  3. Chill dough for 30 minutes, then roll into balls and coat lightly in granulated sugar.
  4. Place on baking sheet and press a thumbprint into the center of each cookie.
  5. Mix cream cheese with powdered sugar until smooth; pipe or spoon into each indent.
  6. Bake until set but soft, about 12–14 minutes; cool completely before serving.
