Description

A rich, savory meatloaf infused with caramelized onions and topped with melty cheese and onion gravy.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 2 cups Caramelized onions
  • 1 cup Gruyère or Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup Beef broth
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 1 tsp Thyme
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Slowly caramelize sliced onions in butter with garlic and thyme until golden and soft.
  2. Mix ground beef with breadcrumbs, eggs, Worcestershire, salt, pepper, and half the caramelized onions.
  3. Shape into a loaf and bake at 375°F for 45–55 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, make onion gravy by simmering remaining caramelized onions with beef broth until slightly thickened.
  5. Remove loaf from oven, top with sliced cheese, and broil briefly to melt.
  6. Pour onion gravy over the top for a glossy finish.
  7. Sprinkle with fresh thyme or parsley and slice to serve.
