Description

A magical self-layering pie with caramelized apples on top and silky custard beneath.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large apples (thinly sliced)
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9-inch pie dish.
  2. Arrange thin apple slices in a circular pattern at the bottom of the dish.
  3. In a bowl, whisk eggs, sugar, melted butter, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Add flour, cinnamon, and salt; whisk until fully combined (thin batter is normal).
  5. Pour batter gently over apples.
  6. Bake 45–55 minutes until golden brown and center is just set.
  7. Cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and slice to reveal the creamy custard layer.

Notes

  • Ensure apples are thinly sliced for even cooking.
  • Let the pie cool slightly before slicing for best results.
  • Dust with powdered sugar just before serving for a nice presentation.
