Description

A cozy and hearty casserole combining two comfort food classics: cheesy macaroni and meatloaf.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 2 cups Macaroni pasta
  • 2 cups Cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 Onion, finely chopped
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 2 tbsp Flour
  • 1 tsp Mustard powder
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper

Instructions

  1. Cook macaroni until just al dente; drain and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, mix ground beef, onion, egg, breadcrumbs, mustard, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Press the meat mixture evenly into a greased baking dish to form the meatloaf layer.
  4. Melt butter in a saucepan, whisk in flour, then slowly add milk to form a smooth sauce.
  5. Stir in cheddar cheese until melted, then fold in cooked macaroni.
  6. Spread the mac and cheese evenly over the meatloaf layer.
  7. Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes until bubbly, golden, and set. Rest 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add some cayenne pepper to the meat mixture.
  • Feel free to substitute ground turkey for a leaner option.
