A hearty comfort casserole of tender potatoes, seasoned beef, and melted cheese baked to golden perfection.
Ingredients

- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ cup diced tomatoes (optional)
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Salt, pepper, and thyme to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil and sauté onion and garlic until fragrant. Add ground beef and cook until browned.
- Stir in diced tomatoes, salt, pepper, and thyme. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Layer half the potato slices in the baking dish, followed by the beef mixture, and then remaining potatoes.
- Pour heavy cream evenly over the top and sprinkle with shredded cheddar.
- Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes, then uncover and bake another 10–15 minutes until golden and bubbling.
- Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add some chili flakes to the beef mixture.
- Feel free to substitute the cheddar cheese with your favorite cheese.
- This dish can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator before baking.
