Description

A hearty comfort casserole of tender potatoes, seasoned beef, and melted cheese baked to golden perfection.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup diced tomatoes (optional)
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt, pepper, and thyme to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil and sauté onion and garlic until fragrant. Add ground beef and cook until browned.
  3. Stir in diced tomatoes, salt, pepper, and thyme. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Layer half the potato slices in the baking dish, followed by the beef mixture, and then remaining potatoes.
  5. Pour heavy cream evenly over the top and sprinkle with shredded cheddar.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes, then uncover and bake another 10–15 minutes until golden and bubbling.
  7. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add some chili flakes to the beef mixture.
  • Feel free to substitute the cheddar cheese with your favorite cheese.
  • This dish can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator before baking.
